TPACK Lesson Plan

Grade Level: 1st Grade
Learning Outcomes: Students will solve real-world mathematical problems using addition.

Introduction: The teacher will introduce addition facts with a YouTube video- “Lets learn our addition Facts 1- Addition song for kids- Math for children- Jack Hartmann. The teacher will demonstrate examples using the smartboard. The students will learn new terms that are about addition such as addends, sum, altogether, add, total, and more. The students will then get to go to the whiteboard and work on real-world problems using addition. Then they will split up into 3 groups.

Direct Instruction:
Teacher-led- the students will each get a worksheet- Number Line Addition. As a group, they will work together. The instructor will guide them with the first addition problem. The teacher will then go around the group and have each student do a part of the addition problem. The teacher will check if students are following and understanding.

Independent- the students will work on IXL Math- First Grade level: Addition. Each student will need to get as far as they can until the timer goes off. The teacher will be able to see the progress and where a student may be needing more help.

Listening Center- The students will go to the smartboard and play ABCya. The students will need to get a small whiteboard to write down addition facts if they get stuck on a problem. They may need to draw a picture or use a number line to figure out the answer to the addition facts.

Assessment: The students will be assessed with a Number Line worksheet from Education.com. The students will have to listen to 4 real-world questions and finish the rest of the addition facts on their own.

Materials:
- Youtube Video- “Lets learn our addition Facts 1- Addition song for kids- Math for children- Jack Hartmann”
- Smartboard activity- Teacher will either make or try and find one already made.
- Worksheet- Number Line Addition “https://www.sparklebox.co.uk/previews/sb12217-number-line-addition-worksheets/
- IXL Math- B.2 Adding with Pictures- sums up to 10

- Education.com- Number Line Addition. http://www.education.com/worksheet/article/addding-with-a-number-line/

Reflection:
1. How well the use of this technology may support your teaching strategies in this activity?
Technology is very useful for my teaching strategies. Math is an activity in which technology has many applications that can help students achieve a goal. YouTube is a great visual tool to use for those students that learn that way. ABCya and IXL are fun games that will help students understand a lesson.

2. How effectively the use of this technology may enhance students' understanding of and learning from your particular content in this activity?
The smartboard is an interactive activity that gets students involved and moving. The teacher can make the slides with what she or he sees important. The other technology stategies are for those visual learners. It helps them stay on task and learn important math facts. IXL is also a great way to keep the progress of each student. The teacher can review their results and figure out a way to help those that struggle in an area.

3. What are your strategies and why do you think your strategies are appropriate to teaching this specific content?  What makes you believe it would help your students comprehend this particular content? Give specific examples from your described activity?
I believe the Number Line Addition worksheet I have students do in a group is appropriate because it is a one to one with students. It can be like an individual assessment to see if a student needs more help in an area. The ABCya game it is appropriate for students because it goes over addition facts and helps students be more fluent. IXL will help students because it will be something they did at the beginning of the lesson. It will be a review and they would have had an idea of how it works.

4. What would be some conceptions and pre-conceptions that students of different ages and backgrounds bring with them when learning this particular content? What would you be concerned about students' prior knowledge, experiences, motivation? Again focus on the content and your teaching strategy, not the technology!
Some students may barely be entering school and may not know their numbers, thus not being able to add. These students would have to have worksheets with activities they can do on their level. Other students may seem like they know what the lesson is but can be guessing. That is the importance of assessments.

5. What main instructional strategies would this technology use serve in your activity? How would using the technology support the way you teach this activity? Please give examples and be specific to your described activity. Think about your main teaching strategies that this technology would support.
The technology would help me with this math lesson the majority of the time. The smartboard helps students get a visual but get involved in doing showing the work on the board. The applications help students get more practice and show the teacher what they learned.

6. What different classroom management strategies you might need to consider when using this technology in the activity? Give examples and be specific to your described activity.
For the ABCya game I will need them to show me the problems they worked on, so they won't just be messing around. I will teach them how to get back on the application in case it kicks them out.

7. How would using this technology enhance the way the content is represented in your activity (e.g. demonstrations, explanations, examples, illustrations, analogies, and etc.)? That is why you think the selection and the pedagogical use of this technology may enhance what you teach (the content in your activity). Give specific examples from your activity to support your answer and keep in mind the learning objectives that you stated previously.
Many students learn with technology and I think this will be an advantage for the teacher to use in the classroom. YouTube is a great source to explain a lesson that has great instruction and visual effects that catch the students attention.

8. In what different ways students practice or understand the content in your activity that would otherwise not be possible without the use of the technology? In addition to motivational benefits, what else can students do with this technology as they are learning the content?
I think worksheets are good to use in the classroom but it shouldn't be just worksheets to teach. Technology is a great resource to use and it has many benefits to see progress. The era of worksheets and only teacher talking is not enough now in days.

3-D Printing

3-D printing can be another form of technology in the classroom. Technology is something that should be integrated into education. There should be training sessions for the teachers that want 3-D in schools but don't have the background knowledge of how to use it.
3-D printing in schools is a great way to get students involved. As educators, this is important because in the future this will be something the students will be dealing with. Students should be able to be indulged with as many helpful resources they can lay their hands on. It serves as a tangible way of learning a subject. This will also help teachers and students to get together to do projects after school.
A challenge that was addressed was that many teachers were not trained or didn't know how to use the 3-D machine. This could be a big problem for schools because some teachers may not implicate 3-D printing because they don't know how to turn on machine. Training should be required because of the money that goes into buying a 3-D machine. Teachers may need some time to think of how to incorporate it in their lesson plans, and should be given the training and the time to do this.
In conclusion, 3-D printing is a great way to get students to learn. This helps them know the way to make things and get them to wan to learn math, science, technology, and engineering.

Google Classroom

Technology has been an effective tool in the classroom. The teacher and students benefit from the resources that are offered online. One of these resources is Google Classroom.
I got the chance to take a look at this first hand. It does take time to get adjusted but this website offers valuable already made worksheets for assignments, quizzes, materials, and questions. I really enjoyed that it is easy and fast to use. The fact that it doesn't waste paper and can be sent to the students makes the job easier. Another great benefit of Google Classroom is that it leaves your file on hand just in case you want to use another year.
It did take me a while to add another question because I am used to seeing the option at the bottom. I did end up finding it on this little toolbar on the side. Making the questions and marking which were correct was easy as well. I did get a little irritated because I couldn't get my assignment sent to the students. There was a send button but that would only send to emails or links. I finally figured I had to go to my first page and then I got the option to send to the students.
In conclusion, Google Classroom would great even with little children that need extra help. The teacher can find ways to send to parents so they can help their children at home. I also think the teacher will have a way to get students ready for what can come before they go to school the next week.

How Technology Changes Our Life

I believe technology is a very good invention. I agree with Albert Einstein because technology is slowly doing everything for us; therefore, making us idiots. It does help in a variety of areas such as education, communication, medicine, and life. There has to be a boundary of how technology can be used.
Technology has helped education with reading, comprehension, math, and other subjects. Children need many resources to be sufficient today. Technology in schools is great because there is a time limit of how long they can be on the laptop or computer. Many children when they go home are unsupervised or are able to stay on their devices for very long periods of time. Younger children should be taught ahead of time that it is only for a little time. Most of their time should be spent with family and friends so they can socialize. Children can learn to plant something or make something with their hands. The Nature Valley video surprised me with the three different generations and it was sad to see how children feel normal being in a game. A child should feel normal around children his or her age and be able to play with them. Technology has intervened with communication hence why we should limit time on it.
Communication is a great way to get technology into the home environment. Many families need it to get a hold of their family members. Adults are responsible for the time spent on phones and should be of example to children or younger siblings. The hijacked family dinner was eye-opening because even adults were going crazy because the internet was turned off was surprising. Watching the young adults and children screaming and yelling was hard to see because it is just a device. Those emotions for a simple device was not a great reaction. We should be able to express other types of emotions to real live people. Maybe not the screaming or yelling but it does happen sometimes. The parents should have a built-in pepper shaker to turn off the wifi because family time is needed. There are other important things we can show emotion to.
Medicine is very needed in the life of many people. People don't want to see their family members suffer from a disease if there is a cure. The practice of medicine has come a long way and has regulations that need to be followed. The ethics of people should not be taken lightly. Yes, medicine is important, but it should not be on the cost of an innocent's life. The first gene-edited baby is a great example of this. The researcher who helped edit the gene of an HIV embryo can be a help in the epidemic of the spread of this harmful disease, but the research doesn't know how this baby will react to his gene edit. It will be a success if the baby is unharmed and does not suffer from other disabilities. If there are consequences the baby has to suffer because of the edit in the genes, it should be considered heinous. All the countries should get together to decide what should be done and what is not a rightful practice.
In conclusion, technology should have a limit. Technology is great in helping in moments but should not take over our lives. The changes technology makes are not to be taken lightly because we can easily make us idiots. We should let our own minds make decisions and make rules to help the living things on this earth.
